Health costs to shift; public hospitals’ work will go on

With the ranks of the nation’s uninsured shrinking by 32 million under health care reform, questions are swirling about the role of public hospitals. Will they be needed? Will patients go elsewhere? Will they be better off financially or worse? “Certainly in the state of California, they are not going away anytime soon,” said Dr. Michael Finley, associate dean for clinical affairs and post-graduate training at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona.
