Health care tax credit has many restrictions

3Fold Communications will get a $4,800 break on its 2010 taxes after spending almost $40,000 this year to provide health insurance for its employees. Arthur Engineering Inc. will spend $58,800 and get nothing back because employees make too much money to qualify.

Small-business tax credits under federal health care reform are designed to benefit very small businesses struggling to provide health benefits for their workers, but the narrow criteria for eligibility leaves many out of the loop, sources say.
