Health Care a Laggard for Venture Funds

Venture-capital investment in Silicon Valley companies rose robustly in 2010, but not all sectors benefited.

While overall venture investment in Bay Area start-ups rose 12% to $9.5 billion last year from $8.5 billion in 2009, certain sectors—such as Web-heavy consumer-information services, as well as energy and utilities companies—saw disproportionately larger increases than such areas as health care-related start-ups.
