Health Bill Forces Drug Companies To Disclose Doctor Gifts

A little-known provision in the health care legislation signed into law Tuesday by President Barack Obama requires drug companies to disclose the gifts—worth billions of dollars annually—given to doctors. Some Bay Area residents were happy to learn of the new law. San Francisco resident Bill Benkavitch said he wants to know what might be behind a doctor’s recommendation, especially “whether or not he’s getting paid for it, cause that influences what he’s doing,” he said.
