GOP lawmakers query IRS on reform-fund expenditures
Modern Healthcare

Republican leaders on the House Ways and Means Committee have requested detailed information from the Internal Revenue Service regarding the agency’s use of all money from the healthcare reform law’s $1 billion health insurance reform implementation fund. In a letter (PDF) to IRS Commissioner David Shulman, Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) and Dr. Charles Boustany (R-La.), chairman of the full committee’s subcommittee on oversight, wrote that the agency has received “tens of millions of dollars from this fund to implement parts of the healthcare overhaul,” and that this money will be used to fund IRS healthcare-related activities “above and beyond” the agency’s fiscal 2012 request of $473.3 million for healthcare purposes.
