The House Budget Committee on Wednesday evening passed the ambitious 2012 budget resolution it introduced the day before, with all of panel’s Republican majority members supporting the measure.

In a vote of 22 to 16, the committee advanced the resolution that aims to cut $6.2 trillion in government spending over 10 years compared with President Barack Obama’s fiscal year 2012 budget, and also seeks to reduce federal deficits by $4.4 trillion over a decade. The budget proposes significant changes for the nation’s Medicare and Medicaid programs, which were met with sharp criticism from the nation’s healthcare providers.
