Federal healthcare spending expected as high as 10% of GDP by 2035

Total federal healthcare spending is expected to rise from 5.6% of gross domestic product in 2011 to as much as 10% of the economy by 2035, according to the latest estimates of the Congressional Budget Office.

The rapid growth comes despite CBO number crunchers including the planned provisions of the 2010 federal healthcare, which aimed to “bend the cost curve” and reduce the increase in healthcare spending, as President Barack Obama and other Democrats described it.
