Extension of Medicaid boost passes Senate

The Senate passed a $26.1 billion package of state aid that extends a higher federal share of Medicaid funding until mid-2011, clearing the way for a House vote early next week and earning plaudits from the provider sector. “In these trying economic times, the temporary extension of FMAP is crucial to sustain the commitment … of the Medicaid programs for those who need them the most,” Chip Kahn, president and CEO of the Federation of American Hospitals, said in a written statement.
