ER patients can wait at home instead, for a price

One valley hospital took another step this week to give patients with relatively minor maladies a fast track into the emergency room.

John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio put up signs Tuesday setting aside five parking spaces for people who check into its ER online. Since late September, the hospital has used the InQuickER system to allow patients with issues that are not life-threatening to sign in online, wait at home and come in at a specified time.
