El Camino aims for efficiency

Sweeping health care reform, proposed cuts to Medi-Cal in Gov. Jerry Brown’s 2011-12 budget and the hangover from the recession have officials at El Camino Hospital working to figure out how to offer the same level of care in tighter financial times.

Dr. Eric Pifer, the hospital’s chief medical officer, said that the extent to which American health care will change as a result of the Obama Administration’s reforms, and the future of California’s budget, are both uncertain.
