Cuts to health prompt search for help

With San Mateo County facing a growing structural deficit, deep cuts and layoffs will touch all departments. The Health System faces a loss of $15.2 million alone this year, prompting county officials to look elsewhere to fill in the gaps — including the county’s two health care districts. The county is looking to cut $50 million from its $1.7 billion budget and slash up to 270 jobs as its structural deficit is expected to climb to $150 million by 2015.
