Consumers see increase in hospital prices

Consumer prices for hospital services increased 0.7% in October after rising 1.8% the prior month, according to seasonally adjusted figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s compared to October 2009 when the consumer price index for hospitals was 0.4%. Inpatient hospital services rose 0.8% and outpatient services climbed 0.7% in October. For the 12-month period ended in October, consumer hospital prices climbed 8.5%, up from 6.9% for the year ago period.
