Clinical-trial compensation bill goes to Obama

The House of Representatives passed a bill that would prevent recipients of Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income from losing their benefits if they accept compensation for participation in clinical trials for rare diseases and conditions. The bill, called the Improving Access to Clinical Trials Act (PDF), would let state and federal benefits recipients to receive up to $2,000 as compensation for enrollment, travel and other expenses associated with participating in rare-disease clinical trials if those trials have been reviewed and approved by research centers’ institutional review boards.
