Children’s Oakland to lay off 17 staffers, slash budget by $10 million

Children’s Hospital Oakland said Tuesday it’s implementing plans announced late last month to cut expenditures, by laying off 17 staffers and making other moves to cut a projected $26 million loss this year to $16 million. On March 25, the nonprofit pediatric hospital said it needed to take a number of steps to address the budget crunch, including developing new business practices, negotiating better rates with government programs and private insurers, and restructuring.
