Children’s health bill clears hurdle

Common sense won out over self-interested opposition when state Sen. Bob Huff’s Senate Bill 161 cleared a big hurdle on Thursday. The bill would authorize school districts to train nonmedical school employees – who volunteer for the training – to administer fast-acting medication to a student having a seizure.

Diastat, a preparation of diazepam gel, is the standard emergency treatment for those who suffer a seizure outside a hospital or doctor’s office.
