Children’s care facility to suspend in-patient service
San Francisco Business Times

George Mark Children’s House, the country’s first free-standing residential pediatric palliative care facility, will stop providing in-patient medical care.

The move, which Executive Director Julie Brewer said is temporary, is a direct result of the economy and a sharp drop in philanthropic donations. Many insurance plans do not offer pediatric palliative care, and those that do seldom cover the full cost of the care George Mark provides. Other George Mark families have no insurance at all.
