Census Numbers Show 50.7 Million Uninsured

The Census Bureau released on Thursday the latest figures on how many Americans were without health insurance in 2009: 50.7 million people, an increase of almost 10 percent from the 46.3 million people without coverage in 2008.

This is the first year since 1987, when the agency began tracking these numbers this way, that the number of the people with insurance actually decreased, from 255.1 million in 2008 to 253.6 million in 2009. Read the full report.
