Cardiac device gets test run at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital
The Californian - Salinas

Surgeons at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital operated successfully Wednesday on their first high-risk patient to get a new heart implant that’s on nationwide clinical trial. The device — called AngelMed Guardian System — is the size of a pacemaker or defibrillator, but serves a different purpose. By measuring electrical differences between heart tissue fed by a blocked artery and parts still getting oxygen, it could warn patients of an impending heart attack.
