California health providers slapped with big fines

State regulators have slapped the seven largest managed-care plans in California with almost $5 million in fines for late and/or inaccurate payment of claims to doctors and hospitals. The fines, coupled with corrective action plans and restitution expected in the “tens of millions of dollars,” cap an 18-month investigation by the state Department of Managed Health Care.
