California will get $1.28 billion from the federal government, thanks to a vote Tuesday by the U.S. House of Representatives to extend enhanced Medicaid rates through June. The move increases California’s regular federal match for health and social services for the poor to 65 percent from 50 percent on a temporary basis. It comes at a critical time when wrangling over the state budget has some Medicaid programs on the chopping block.
