Brown vetoes hospital licensing bill prompted by Alvarado sale
San Diego Union-Tribune

Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed a bill that would have required hospitals to apply to the California Department of Public Health for a new license during any majority change of ownership interest or control.

The proposed law was prompted by the purchase of Alvarado Hospital in San Diego by Prime Healthcare Services in November, 2010, according to the bill’s author, Sen. Ed Hernandez, a Democrat from West Covina.
