Bob Williams: Poor losers in the health care struggle

President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law, as well as the subsequent reconciliation bill. In signing these, he added the third leg to the structure upholding the social safety net – Social Security, Medicare and, now, near-universal health care. All were Democrat-led initiatives. The Social Security Act of 1937 and its modification to create Medicare and Medicaid in 1965 were Democrat-led but supported by a number of Republicans. Not so with the just-passed health care act.
