Blue Shield ends contract with local doctors

A national health insurance company’s recent break with a Napa Valley medical group has thousands of locals facing a health care dilemma — pay more out-of-pocket to keep their family doctor or find a new physician who will take their insurance. The trouble started when Napa Valley Family Medical Group — nine area physicians serving about 3,000 Blue Shield patients — couldn’t agree on new reimbursement rates for the group’s doctors. The group’s contract with Blue Shield ended on Nov. 4.
