Blue Shield agrees to delay rate hike
Sacramento Bee

Blue Shield acquiesced to demands that it delay for 60 days a proposed rate hike that would have raised premiums on nearly 200,000 Californians.

The hikes, some as much as 59 percent, were to go into effect March 1.

The insurer had been under fire by Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones for refusing to delay the hikes.

“We want to be sure that the rates, which we filed in October, are reviewed to the commissioner’s satisfaction,” the company said in a statement today.
