Bill would set up system to warn of potential drug shortages
Modern Healthcare

New federal legislation to prevent unexpected shortages of medicines for hospitals and other provider settings was introduced this week.

The legislation, which would require prescription drug manufacturers to give early notification to the FDA of any incident likely to result in a medication shortage, drew the early support of five major healthcare advocacy groups: the American Hospital Association; the American Society of Anesthesiologists; the American Society of Clinical Oncology; the Institute for Safe Medication Practices; and the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists.
