Bill stalls, blocking out-of-state workers at free health care events
California Watch

A bill that would have increased the ranks of volunteers at massive free clinics operated by a Tennessee-based nonprofit fizzled in a legislative committee Thursday. The bill would have allowed Remote Area Medical to bring out-of-state health professional volunteers into California for its events. It met stiff opposition, though, from the California Nurses Association, which saw the relaxing of state licensure requirements as a threat to patients who would be treated by workers with no accountability to California authorities.
