Bernard Tyson named president of Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente has promoted Executive Vice President Bernard Tyson to president and chief operating officer of the Oakland health care giant, a spot that has been left vacant for eight years.

Tyson, 51, will serve in the No. 2 position at the organization and will continue to report to George Halvorson, chairman and chief executive officer of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals.
