Bay Area health care wins big with Blue Shield grants

Bay Area medical groups and other health care entities are among the big winners in Blue Shield of California ’s distribution of nearly $20 million in grants to help bolster the growth of accountable care organizations in California — and to boost Blue Shield’s public image. Local winners include San Francisco-based Brown & Toland Physicians ($1.7 million), San Ramon’s Hill Physicians Medical Group and partner Catholic Healthcare West ($1.8 million), Physicians Medical Group of Santa Cruz ($475,000), San Francisco’s Chinese Community Health Care Association ($971,000), Roseville’s Adventist Health ($1 million) and Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula ($1 million).
