Audits: Mammogram program fails to report services
San Francisco Chronicle

A mammogram program for low income women failed to report its work to California legislators for more than a decade, according to two new state reports.

The Legislative Analyst Office’s report released Monday found that the California Department of Public Health’s reporting has been lax or nonexistent since the Every Woman Counts program was established in 1991 to provide free mammograms and diagnostic services, such as ultrasounds and biopsies, by using tobacco tax funds and federal monies.
