Monterey Herald

An audit of a state program that provides mammograms to low-income women has revealed major discrepancies in the number of cases reported annually. The Office of State Audits and Evaluations’ special report on the Every Woman Counts program released Tuesday found the program completed 179,761 cases in fiscal year 2008-09. The state Department of Public Health reported 311,000 in the same year, a difference of more than 130,000 cases.
