Anthem backs down
Sacramento Bee

Those notices that Anthem Blue Cross of California sent out in January to 800,000 Californians, announcing rate increases of up to 39 percent?

All a mistake. Just “errors of math.” The company didn’t mean to double-count the effect of aging or overstate initial medical trends. Really.

Now, of course, Anthem didn’t find these errors on its own. It admitted them only after an independent analysis found “numerous and substantial errors” that would have led to “massive and unjustified rate increases.”
