Natividad Medical Center should free itself from traditional Monterey County oversight if the county-owned safety-net hospital is to succeed under the demands of national health care reform. That’s the conclusion of a new report that projects the Salinas hospital could earn more than $70 million more through the end of this decade if it converts to a public authority than it would under its current status as a county department.
