AMA urges flexibility on doc-hospital ties for ACOs

The American Medical Association urged antitrust authorities to loosen proposed rules regarding how independent doctors and hospitals may form financial ties under accountable care organizations.

The Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission in late March released draft rules for independent providers that earn the status of Medicare accountable care organizations. The CMS simultaneously published its proposed accountable care rules, which would put providers in line for bonuses or penalties that hinge on the cost and quality of patients’ care.
