AHA sees healthcare threat in debt debate

Legislation to limit the nation’s debt could be a “vehicle for cutting healthcare,” the American Hospital Association warned in an advocacy alert to members on May 19.

The nation now faces an Aug. 2 deadline to raise the federal debt limit or risk defaulting on its financial obligations. In the notice, the AHA called on its members to contact their representatives and senators and urge them to protect funding for hospital services under the Medicare and Medicaid programs as the debt-ceiling negotiations continue.
