AARP: Families provide $450B worth of unpaid care
San Francisco Chronicle

How do you put a value on caring for family members who are chronically ill or disabled?

AARP estimates it at about $450 billion a year.

That’s how much it might cost for the unpaid care that roughly one in every four adults provides to loved ones.

The total is up from $375 billion in 2007, with the increase reflecting a rise in the number caregivers and hours of care. Given the continued rise in health-care costs, it’s likely the tally would be higher today.
