$32 million marked for rural healthcare

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has announced $32 million in funding to help improve access to healthcare services for rural Americans. The funding will be allocated to seven programs that are administered by the Office of Rural Health Policy in HHS’ Health Resources and Services Administration. “The grants will strengthen partnerships among rural health providers,” HRSA Administrator Mary Wakefield said in a news release about the funds. “Funds will be used to recruit and retain rural healthcare professionals and modernize the healthcare infrastructure in rural areas.”
