Overview

We invite you to join us for a special briefing from California hospital leaders on COVID-19. Our distinguished panel of speakers includes:

Carmela Coyle, President and CEO, California Hospital Association

Carrie L. Byington, MD, Executive Vice President, University of California Health

Robert Wiebe, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Dignity Health (CommonSpirit)

Members of the California Congressional Delegation and their health staff are encouraged to attend a virtual briefing on California hospitals’ pandemic response and preparedness. Speakers will discuss the comprehensive effort CA hospitals are engaged in to care for their communities including the status of personal protective equipment, hospitals’ ability to treat increasing numbers of patients, alternative treatment sites, and anticipated vaccine availability for frontline health care workers. Ample time will be allowed for your questions during this interactive briefing.

Speakers

Carmela Coyle
President & CEO
California Hospital Association

Carmela Coyle began her tenure as President & CEO of the California Hospital Association, the statewide leader representing the interests of more than 400 hospitals and health systems in California, in October 2017.

Previously, Ms. Coyle led the Maryland Hospital Association for nine years, where she played a leading role in reframing the hospital payment system in Maryland and moving to a value-based methodology. Maryland is now considered a national leader in health care policy and innovation.

Carrie L. Byington, MD
Executive Vice President
University of California Health


Dr. Byington joined University of California Health after holding significant leadership roles at Texas A&M University System and the University of Utah. She is an academic physician-scientist whose research spans the translational spectrum and has focused primarily on bacterial and viral respiratory pathogens in children. She is board certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Byington’s awards and accomplishments are numerous and include recognition from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health. She was also the Chair of the Infectious Diseases Advisory Group for the U.S. Olympic Committee, responsible for protecting Team USA athletes and staff from Zika Virus during the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

Robert Wiebe, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dignity Health (CommonSpirit)

Dr. Wiebe’s accountabilities at CommonSpirit include clinical governance, patient safety, quality, patient experience, clinical service lines, academic medicine, clinical research, medical informatics, and clinical data science. He had been with Dignity Health since 2008 and served as Dignity Health’s EVP/Chief Medical Officer. Previously, he served at the Veterans Integrated Service Network.
