Workforce Efforts Focus on Nursing in a Transformed Health Care System
CHA calls for best practices in developing new RN roles

A national team of RN workforce experts has released the attached research brief highlighting new roles nurses are taking on in the changing health care environment and underscoring that, while the supply of nurses is likely to meet demand, nursing jobs will change dramatically in a redesigned health care system. These transformed job roles involve new responsibilities for population health, care coordination and interprofessional collaboration. CHA is actively working with the California Institute for Nursing and Health Care and the Association of California Nurse Leaders to synthesize information on changing RN roles. Hospitals that have best practices to share on how they are developing new RN roles – and particularly on how they are being financed – are asked to contact CHA to share their experience.
