Webinar Explains Final Rule for Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Model
Hospitals must elect voluntary participation by Jan. 31

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently held a webinar to provide an overview of the final rule that updates the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) Model, including a reduction in mandatory participation for certain metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) participating in the model. The webinar provided information on the methods for electing CJR model participation for hospitals in newly voluntary MSAs or for those with low-volume or rural status in mandatory MSAs under the CJR model. As a reminder, California hospitals in the Modesto and San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward MSAs are now eligible for voluntary CJR participation, while hospitals in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim MSA remain in the mandatory program, unless they are on the list of hospitals with low-volume or rural status. Hospitals choosing to voluntarily participate must make a one-time participation election by Jan. 31, 2018, or be automatically dropped from the CJR model. Additional information is included in the attached webinar slides.
