Webinar to Explain How Assessment Tools Help ED Throughput
Register now — program is next week

CHA will offer a webinar to explain how emergency department (ED) overcrowding assessment tools gather data, and how the data can be used to make operational adjustments that improve patient care before crowding becomes a problem. The webinar will be held May 29 from 10 a.m. – noon (PT).

Participants will learn about the Community Emergency Department Overcrowding Scale (CEDOCS) from its developer, Dr. Steven Weiss. Dr. Weiss will walk participants through the CEDOCS tool and discuss how the data can be used to improve hospital throughput. In the second half of the webinar, Aaron Wolff, RN, from Dignity Health, will explain how the Dignity Health system leveraged CEDOCS to create a customized, evidence-based tool specific to California hospitals — the Dignity Health Emergency Department Overcrowding Scale (DEDOCS). Mr. Wolff will discuss how DEDOCS is used in 35 hospitals to rate levels of ED crowding and the procedures they have developed to proactively respond to ED patient flow fluctuations. In addition, he will share how the DEDOCS data is used to provide information needed to comply with The Joint Commission’s new performance improvement standards.
