Volunteer Leadership Conference to Feature ‘Hospital Shop of the Future’
Highlights retail revolution under way in hospitals

A retail revolution is under way in hospitals. To highlight this change, the 2013 CAHHS Hospital Volunteer Leadership Conference, Feb. 25-28 in Newport Beach, will feature a “Hospital Shop of the Future.” Constructed within the exhibit hall and open Feb. 26 and Feb. 27,  the model shop will feature product categories that are part health and wellness, part convenience store and part traditional gift shop.

Just a few of the Hospital Shop of the Future features include:

  • Hospital Shop Cloud: Products available for delivery directly from a “local cloud” allowing customers to place sales via phone and iPad.
  • Coffee + Pastry: Small Wi-Fi-enabled area dedicated to coffee and pastry selection, with a European design.
  • Near Field Communications (NFC): All items in the shop will have an attached NFC tag. When an NFC-enabled phone is placed near an NFC tag, the phone will display the item and provide description. The item can also be purchased and delivered to a patient’s room at a later date.
  • New Design and Display Techniques: A special focus will be placed on “curated” selection of products.

The CAHHS Hospital Volunteer Leadership Conference is celebrating its 50th year of quality hospital volunteer leadership education. Registration is exclusively online and available to attendees, exhibitors, sponsors and advertisers. Space is limited to 500 attendees per day. For more information and to register, go to www.calhospital.org/volunteerconference.
