Updated Toolkit Encourages Smoking Cessation

The attached toolkit, a resource of the Medi-Cal Incentives to Quit Smoking (MIQS) Project, is designed to motivate smoking cessation among Medi-Cal members. According to the MIQS Project, Medi-Cal members are at risk of developing heart disease, lung disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes because they smoke at higher rates than non-members. The toolkit contains promotional materials highlighting a free nicotine patch incentive offer, information on how to connect to the California Smokers’ Helpline’s web-based referral system, and action ideas and tools for health care providers. Questions about the toolkit can be directed to Cynthia Vela at cvela@cdph.ca.gov
