Upcoming National Exercise Will Simulate Health Care Cyber Attacks

The Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST), in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), will lead an exercise – called CyberRX – to simulate cyber attacks on health care organizations in March. Results of the exercise will be used to evaluate health care organizations’ response and threat preparedness against attacks and attempts to disrupt U.S. health care operations. Participants in the CyberRX simulation will include providers, health plans, prescription benefit managers, pharmacies and pharmaceutical manufacturers, in addition to DHHS. Examining both broad and segment-specific scenarios targeting information systems, medical devices and other essential technology resources, a report of outcomes will be distributed in April. More information on CyberRx is available in the HITRUST press release.
