Upcoming Conference Spotlights Volunteer Administration and Retail Science

Among the variety of educational opportunities at this year’s 2014 California Hospital Volunteer Leadership Conference will be two tracks to improve attendees’ skills in volunteer administration and retail science. The conference, presented by the California Association for Hospitals and Health Systems (CAHHS) Volunteer Services, will be held Feb. 18-21 at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento.

Mary McCormack, CAVS, DCVS will facilitate the Association of Hospital Volunteer Resources Professionals (AHVRP) Principles of Volunteer Resource Management track. The track’s six sessions include Ongoing Preparedness for the Joint Commission; Legal Awareness; Strategic Planning and Program Enhancements; Program Organization and Administration; Risk Management; and Specialized Volunteer Management Tools. Mark Crafton, executive director of state and external relations for The Joint Commission, will co-facilitate The Joint Commission session. Gail Blanchard-Saiger, vice president, labor and employment for CHA, will co-facilitate the Legal Awareness session.

Lilly Stamets, gift shop manager, UCSF Medical Center, will facilitate the CAHHS Retail Science Academy. Five sessions will focus on the power of product, people, presentation, price and point-of-sale systems. Joining hospital volunteer retail practitioners in presenting the sessions will be industry experts Sarah Jones, retail relations manager, Las Vegas Mart; Ann Nensel, regional sales manager west, OneCoast; and Neal Wunderlich, sales representative, American Retail Supply. Attendees who successfully complete all five retail sessions will receive a CAHHS Retail Science Academy certificate of completion.
