Trump Issues Executive Order Creating Agency Regulatory Reform Task Forces

President Trump issued an executive order last week directing each federal agency to establish a regulatory reform task force and regulatory reform officer to identify burdensome regulations for repeal, replacement or modification. The order follows the administration’s Executive Order 13771, which requires federal agencies to identify two regulations to be eliminated for each new one issued. The regulatory reform task forces are required to provide their first reports within 90 days of the Executive Order’s issuance, and on a schedule to be determined by the agency head thereafter. The order also states that as agencies implement Executive Order 13771, they should prioritize regulations that the agency’s regulatory reform task force has identified as being outdated, unnecessary or ineffective.
