Support for Better Care Reconciliation Act Collapsed Monday Night
More GOP senators voiced opposition to the bill

After another unsuccessful attempt to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) pushed to advance a straight repeal plan. However, Republican Sens. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) announced they would vote “no” on a plan to repeal the ACA without a replacement, leaving the repeal effort without sufficient support.

With the “repeal now, replace later” option seemingly a non-starter, Sen. McConnell appears ready to focus on other components of the GOP agenda, including overhauling the tax code and passing a federal budget.

CHA will continue to press its priority message that preserving coverage is vital to the health of California’s communities.
