State Approves Covered California Proposed Health Plan Rates

The California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) has approved proposed premium rates for the 13 individual health plans offered through Covered California after actuaries determined the proposed premium rates were reasonable. As required by law, DMHC actuaries conducted a thorough review of the premium rates proposed by the 13 qualified health plans (QHPs) that will offer coverage through Covered California beginning Jan.1, 2014.The actuaries evaluated the plans’ justification for the proposed rates, including anticipated medical and administration costs, utilization trends and profits. 

The 13 QHPs participating in Covered California include:

  • Alameda Alliance for Health                      
  • Anthem Blue Cross of California                  
  • Blue Shield of California                                
  • Chinese Community Health Plan                    
  • Contra Costa Health Services                       
  • Health Net                              
  • Kaiser Permanente                         
  • L.A. Care Health Plan                     
  • Molina Healthcare                     
  • Sharp HealthCare                      
  • Valley Health Plan                    
  • Ventura County Health Care Plan                    
  • Western Health Advantage                         

Covered California must now sign final contracts with the insurers, which it estimates will be completed by the end of July.
