Senate Passes Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act
Physician payment cuts avoided

The U.S. Senate last night passed the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (H.R. 2) by a vote of 92-8, permanently ending the flawed sustainable growth rate for Medicare physician payments. The Senate rejected six amendments on the way to approval of the House-passed language. President Obama announced he would swiftly sign the bill to avoid deep cuts to physician payments, which were scheduled to begin today.
