Senate, Assembly Joint Committee Requests Audit of RN Licensure Software

In January the Board of Consumer Affairs introduced new licensure software with the Medical Board, the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). The system has undergone multiple upgrades, and resources have been added at the BRN to support the additional work necessary to address system failures. However, technical issues persist with licensure endorsement (granting RN licensure for out-of-state candidates), licensure renewal and new RN licensure. In March, the Senate and Assembly committees on business and professions held a joint oversight hearing to address concerns, and two weeks ago, a Joint Audit Committee hearing was held, during which the BRN software issues were identified as a top priority. The committee asked for an immediate audit and full report by January 2015. CHA is actively involved in working with the BRN, the Board of Consumer Affairs and professional nursing organizations to identify, report and resolve the outstanding issues. Providers are encouraged to contact CHA about any RN licensing issues they are experiencing.
