Report on Health Sector Reveals New Jobs, Near Record Lows for Spending, Price Growth

The health care sector added 31,000 jobs in October, including 6,200 hospital jobs, according to Altarum Institute’s Center for Sustainable Health Spending. The institute also reports that health care prices grew at the lowest rate in more than 14 years — 1.9 percent between September 2011 and September 2012 — largely due to slower growth in hospital prices. In addition, national health care spending grew by 3.7 percent between September 2011 and September 2012, one percentage point less than the gross domestic product and the fifth consecutive month below 4 percent.
